CARIRI’s state-of-the art, internationally credited Chemistry Laboratory offers a wide range of chemical tests for soil quality and pesticide residue.
- Assess whether soil is suitable for roads and buildings
- Test the levels of pesticide residue on fruits and vegetables
- Test for water safety
- Assess prepared foods for pesticide residue
The parameters normally analysed are:-
- water- soluble chlorides
- acid-soluble chloride
- water- soluble sulphate
- acid-soluble sulphate
- carbonate content
- organic matter
- mass loss on ignition
All the listed parameters are analysed according to the British Standard (BS) – Methods of test for Soils for Civil Engineering Purposes: Part 3- Chemical and electro-chemical tests (1990). Our Civil Engineer will then interpret the results and determine the soil’s suitability for use in construction or road building.
Since 2007, CARIRI has been accredited to test for some 50 types of pesticidies commonly used in Trinidad & Tobago and the wider Caribbean.
We adhere to the European Union (EU) Standard for analysis and assessment of Maximum Residue Levels (MRLs) and are accredited by the US-based International Accreditation Service (IAS).
Based on the sensitivity of the test, CARIRI uses Gas-Chromatography coupled with two specialized detectors (FPD and ECD). Any positive results are confirmed using mass spectrometry before being released to the Client. Our analysts were trained internationally in sample preparation and instrumentation, and strict quality controls and method guidelines are maintained for each sample analysed in our laboratory.
